Authentication (Legalization) of Documents
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs authenticates
documents executed in Trinidad and Tobago for use in other countries.
Trinidad and Tobago Diplomatic and Consular Missions abroad legalize
or authenticate documents executed abroad for use in Trinidad and
Tobago.
Authentication or legalization of documents is the
procedure that gives official and legal validity to documents to be
used in another country. The Consular Division of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs is able to certify that a signature, stamp or seal on a
document is genuine by checking it against a specimen held on file and
stamping the document with an Authentication or Apostille.
What kind of documents can be authenticated?
Authentication may be obtained for documents such as:
- powers of attorney
- educational certificates
- birth certificates
- death certificates
- marriage records
- certificate of non-impediment
- statutory declarations
- certificates of origin
- free sale certificates
- articles of continuance.
How to authenticate a document
Please visit the nearest Trinidad and Tobago Diplomatic or Consular Mission to legalize documents executed abroad for use in Trinidad and Tobago. Follow the link below for a list of diplomatic missions.
Requests
for authentication of documents should be made in person - appointments
are not necessary. Simply report to the reception desk at the
Diplomatic Mission with the original documents to be authenticated
between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, Monday to Friday.
