STATE VISIT BY PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA

His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, President of the Republic of Ghana will be paying a State Visit to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago from the 31st July, 2008 to 2nd August, 2008 on the occasion of the commemoration of Emancipation Day 2008.

During his visit H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor will pay a courtesy call on His Excellency Professor George Maxwell Richards, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. He will also meet with the Honourable Patrick Manning, Prime Minister on bilateral issues.

Activities planned for the visit include an Arrival Ceremony at Piarco Interational Airport, participation in the Emancipation Day commemorative events, and a visit to City Hall, San Fernando. Their Excellencies, Professor George Maxwell Richards and Dr. Jean Ramjohn-Richards, will host a State Dinner on the occasion of the visit by President Kufuor. President  Kufuor will depart Piarco International Airport at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday 2nd August, 2008.

 

PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES DATES FOR CHOGM

Trinidad and Tobago will be hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) on November 27th to 29th, 2009. This was announced by The Honourable Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick Manning at the launch of CHOGM on June 30th, 2008. CHOGM is held every two years and brings together Commonwealth leaders to discuss global and Commonwealth issues, and to agree upon collective policies and initiatives.


The following issues were placed on the agenda to be addressed at CHOGM:

  • The Global Food Crisis
  • Climate Change and Environment Sustainability
  • Eradication of Pocerty and Inequality
  • Peace and Democracy
  • International Security
  • Energy and;
  • Reform of the International Financial Architecture

V SUMMIT OF AMERICAS

Trinidad and Tobago will be hosting the Fifth Summit of the Americas on April 17th, 2009. The theme for the Summit is “Securing Our Citizens’ Future by Promoting Human Prosperity, Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability.” This theme focuses on reducing critical vulnerabilities and improving the well being and safety of the peoples of the Americas through an integrated and mutually reinforcing set of social, economic and environmental policies.

Trinidad and Tobago has indicated that the Fifth Summit would be defined by the following three factors:

  • To reconnect with the people of the hemisphere by developing responses that are relevant to their needs and make a positive difference in their lives;

  • To forge a consensus around a viable implementation strategy that engages our regional and national institutions; and

  • To serve to renew the commitment to deeper integration and cooperation among member states and regional institutions.
