Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with new High Commissioner for Ghana

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with His Excellency Samuel Yaw Nsiah, the new High Commissioner for the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday 10th August, 2022, at the Ministry’s Headquarters in St. Clair, prior to His Excellency’s presentation of his Credentials to the President of Trinidad and Tobago. His Excellency presented copies of his Letters of Credence and Letters of Recall of his predecessor to the Minister.

During the exchange, the Minister warmly welcomed the new High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago and conveyed the personal greeting of the Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Keith Christopher Rowley.

Minister Browne and the High Commissioner Nsiah reviewed key aspects of the long and productive diplomatic relationship that Trinidad and Tobago and Ghana have enjoyed since 1967, including bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade and energy, reciprocal support at international organisations and multilateral fora, and the many visits by high-level officials from both countries over the decades.

There was particular emphasis placed on the question of improving air links between the Caribbean and West Africa, on the historical legacy of African countries in the Caribbean and its importance to the celebration of Emancipation Day, and on the prospects for Ghanaian fashion in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean.

The meeting ended cordially with both parties expressing a commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship and cooperation in the interests of the peoples of both nations.
