New Ambassador of Turkey to Trinidad and Tobago resident in Port of Spain


On 28th August, 2018 Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and Her Excellency Hayriye Nurdan Erpulat Altuntaş, newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral relations.

These sentiments were expressed during a Courtesy Call at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs prior to the Presentation of Letters of Credence by the Ambassador to Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

During the discussion, Minister Moses took the opportunity to raise several matters of key interest with a view to enhancing the bilateral relations between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Republic of Turkey. In particular, he underscored that there was potential for cooperation in the areas of Security, Trade, Tourism, Technical Assistance and Investment.

Ambassador Altuntaş echoed the sentiments of Minister Moses on deepening relations and expressed her intention to concretise projects during her tenure as Ambassador. On the subject of tourism between the two countries, the Ambassador noted that one avenue to be explored was the possibility of Turkish Airlines flying directly to Trinidad and Tobago.

Her Excellency has commenced duties as Ambassador of Turkey to Trinidad and Tobago resident in Port of Spain and is in the process of establishing the Embassy of Turkey in Port of Spain.

The meeting concluded with an acknowledgement of the shared interests of Trinidad and Tobago and Turkey and commitment to pursuing initiatives to the benefit of both countries.
