New Head of Mission receives Instrument of Appointment

PORT OF SPAIN: 26TH APRIL, 2018

Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs presented the Instrument of Appointment on behalf of Dr. The Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, to Mr. Stephen B. Seedansingh, Jr., as Trinidad and Tobago’s Ambassador-designate to the People’s Republic of China on 26th April, 2018 at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs. His Excellency Stephen B. Seedansingh Jr., will assume duties in China with accreditation to Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Thailand.

In addition to congratulating Ambassador-designate Seedansingh on his appointment, Minister Moses thanked him for his willingness to serve Trinidad and Tobago and emphasized that his Ambassadorship is an important one since China has been identified in the Government’s Official Policy Document as a country with which we wish to intensify relations. Minister Moses pointed out that despite the numerous achievements of our multi-faceted bilateral relationship thus far, particularly in the areas of security, infrastructural and economic cooperation, there is room for further growth and advancement in the interest of both countries. His Excellency was advised that he would be guided by the Government’s policy framework which underscores that the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and its diplomatic network of overseas missions must be at the frontline of projecting the interests of Trinidad and Tobago internationally.

In concluding, the Minister advised the Ambassador that his immersion in his new role would be immediate as he will be involved in the upcoming Official Visit of the Prime Minister to China which provides significant opportunity for bolstering the relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and China.
