Presidency Pro-Tempore – CELAC- India Meeting Sofitel Hotel, New York September 19, 2022

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, attends the Meeting between the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC (+3 members) and the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India: PTP- CELAC – India

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne held discussions with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India, prior to the start of the Presidency Pro- Tempore CELAC - India Meeting. The two Ministers toasted 60 years of diplomatic relations between Trinidad and Tobago and India and restated their respective commitments to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Trinidad and Tobago was one of three countries invited by Argentina in its capacity as President Pro Tempore of CELAC, to participate in this CELAC - India Ministerial Meeting, held in the margins of the High Level Week of the 77th UNGA. Senator Browne expressed his recognition of the potent voice of India in advocating for issues related to concessional financing and debt relief in international fora, including the G20 where, countries such as Trinidad and Tobago are not present. As regards the particularities of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Minister Browne identified climate change, food security and energy security as three priority issues, and welcomed enhanced cooperation in these areas.

Following the conclusion of the PPT-CELAC-India Meeting, Minister Browne had a brief exchange with His Excellency Gustavo Martínez Pandiani, National Coordinator for the Argentine President Pro Tempore of CELAC and Mario Búcaro, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala.
