Remarks delivered by Ms. Reita Toussaint, Permanent Secretary (Ag.), Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on the occasion of National Day of the Dominican Republic - Thursday 28th February, 2019
1 March 2019
On behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, and on my own behalf, I extend greetings to the Government and people of the Dominican Republic on the occasion of the 175th Anniversary of the Independence of the Dominican Republic.
On this special occasion, we recognise that our countries share much in common, particularly at this time of year. February is a festive time of year for our countries, with Carnival celebrations taking place during the weeks before the beginning of Lent. For The Dominican Republic, this period is particularly festive, given the celebration of Independence on February 27, the anniversary of the Dominican Republic’s declaration of Independence at Puerta del Conde in Santo Domingo.
