The Meeting between Minister Browne and Ambassador Piccato served to discuss matters of mutual interest to the bilateral relations between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Italian Republic. Discussions focused on a number of matters including: Trinidad and Tobago’s candidature for the President of the United Nations General Assembly for the period 2023 to 2024, in the person of the Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations in New York, His Excellency Dennis Francis; the ensuing discussions between Italy and CARICOM Member States toward finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Sustainable Development; and the challenges faced by Middle-Income Countries, such as Trinidad and Tobago and most other CARICOM Member States in accessing needed concessional financing, and the need to revisit metrics for determining levels of development, including factoring-in vulnerability.

The meeting ended cordially with Minister Browne and Ambassador Piccato reiterating their commitment to continued dialogue and to the strengthening of diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Piccato’s official visit to Trinidad and Tobago was a part of a tour of the Caribbean countries comprising his area of jurisdictional responsibility.
