Trinidad and Tobago’s New Ambassador to CARICOM presents Credentials

PORT OF SPAIN: 20TH MAY, 2022

On Wednesday 18th May, 2022, Her Excellency Jennifer Marchand, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, presented her Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Dr. Carla Barnett, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), thereby completing the procedures for her accreditation as the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’s Ambassador to CARICOM.

In her speech during the Presentation of Credentials Ceremony, Ambassador Marchand reaffirmed the commitment of Trinidad and Tobago to CARICOM and to the process of regional integration championed therein. She noted that the Committee of Ambassadors, the organ of CARICOM on which she will sit, has examined several topics of concern that touch the lives of people throughout the region, such as the Revised CARICOM Strategic Plan, the review of regional institutions and the finalization of plans to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the Community.

Ambassador Marchand stated, “Trinidad and Tobago remains committed to its role within the Committee and views its responsibilities to provide strategic advice to the Community Council of Ministers as integral to the functioning of one of the main organs of the Community. The Caribbean Community continues to play a pivotal role within the region as the mediator for vaccines, the interlocutor for the region on issues of climate change and the advocate for financing for development, trade, tourism and cultural exchange. In this regard, Trinidad and Tobago views CARICOM as the premiere advocate for regional integration, which is crucial to the survival of the region.”
