The High Commission

The High Commission of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital is accredited to Algeria, Cameroon, Cote D’ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Republic of Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda.  The High Commission also has Observer status for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU).

The High Commission conducts the day-to-day relations between the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Government of The Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is headed by a High Commissioner who is the official representative of the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to The Federal Republic of Nigeria. The High Commissioner is appointed by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister who is the Head of Government.

The High Commission promotes and protects Trinidad and Tobago’s national and foreign policy interests, particularly its foreign trade, investment and tourism interests throughout Nigeria and the other accredited countries. In this regard, the High Commission is directly responsible to the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs in Port of Spain and through it, to the Government.

Immigration Services:

The High Commission provides services on substantive immigration matters such as the issuance of Passports and restoration of citizenship. The High Commission also responds to general information inquiries about Trinidad and Tobago or refers inquiries to the relevant Ministry or Agency in Trinidad and Tobago that can assist. The High Commission can assist Trinidad and Tobago nationals in distress under specific guidelines.

The High Commission facilitates applications for renewals of machine-readable Trinidad and Tobago passports for nationals of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago who are 16 years and over, and processes applications for Trinidad and Tobago visas made by persons from countries whose citizens require a visa to enter Trinidad and Tobago. Applications for the first issuance of machine-readable Trinidad and Tobago passports, and renewal of machine-readable Trinidad and Tobago passports for nationals of Trinidad and Tobago who are under 16 years of age need to be processed by an Officer of the Immigration Division of Trinidad and Tobago. 

 

Consular Services:

The High Commission provides consular services to nationals and non-nationals who seek assistance for lost or stolen passports, legalized documents, notary services, and/or other areas of assistance. We also facilitate the authentication of Life and National Insurance Certificates
