The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago welcome the visit of the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Sean Sobers, whose visit marks a new chapter in diplomatic relations between the neighbouring countries.
Within the framework of this visit, the Foreign Ministers of both countries held a productive meeting and designed a work agenda to facilitate the beginning of a new era in the history of relations between both countries, which will be led by Her Excellency Delcy Rodríguez, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar S.C. M.P., Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago; an era that will be grounded in mutual respect, understanding, and good neighbourliness.
This working agenda is a roadmap for heightened cooperation in priority areas: commercial, to deepen trade and the growth of both economies; energy, to develop the natural resources provided by both territories; agriculture, to enhance food security; to ensure sustainable development and environmental protection in the Caribbean; culture, to enhance integration of our peoples; and finally, in matters of collective security.
The Government of Venezuela expresses its gratitude for the solidarity and support provided by the people and Government of Trinidad and Tobago during the response efforts following the double earthquake on June 24th.
Both Governments reaffirm their commitment to maintaining a permanent communication channel to advance the established working agenda, always in full compliance with the principles of international law and for the sake of the economic and social development of both peoples.
