MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH AMBASSADOR OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION TO THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs held discussions with His Excellency Alexander S. Kurmaz, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Trinidad and Tobago during a meeting on 18th October, 2024 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.

The meeting focused on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and began with Minister Browne emphasizing Trinidad and Tobago’s position that the invasion of Ukraine is a violation of international law.  Minister Browne underscored Trinidad and Tobago’s advocacy for peace, highlighting that this country leans on the side of multilateralism, and as such hopes to see a swift diplomatic end to the hostilities Additionally, Minister Browne stressed that he remained very disturbed about the loss of human life on both sides of the conflict.

Trinidad and Tobago established diplomatic relations with the former Soviet Union on 6th June 1974 and maintained relations with the Russian Federation after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
