The Honourable Sean Sobers M.P.

The Honourable Sean S.M. Sobers M.P. serves as Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, bringing a wealth of legal acumen, legislative experience, and regional insight to his diplomatic portfolio. A seasoned attorney with over a decade of practice, Minister Sobers has developed extensive expertise across civil, commercial, construction, industrial, and family law, appearing at all levels of the Trinidad and Tobago judicial system.

Minister Sobers holds a Master of Laws (LLM) with Distinction in Corporate and Commercial Law from The University of the West Indies. He was recognized as the Most Outstanding Student in Corporate Commercial Law. He also holds an LLB from the University of London (External) and a Legal Practising Certificate from the University of Staffordshire in the United Kingdom—academic credentials which reflect both regional and international legal training.

In his legal career, he has provided strategic counsel on cross-border business transactions, corporate governance, environmental compliance, and international labour practices. Notably, he served as legal advisor to a multinational service provider operating in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Suriname, offering guidance on corporate, environmental, and industrial relations issues across the Caribbean region.

Minister Sobers has represented clients in complex litigation and multi-party negotiations, and has participated in mediation and dispute resolution at both local and regional levels. His nuanced understanding of international legal frameworks and regulatory environments enhances his capacity to navigate multilateral diplomacy and promote Trinidad and Tobago’s interests abroad.

He is a member of several professional legal bodies including the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago and the Southern Assembly of Lawyers. His professional affiliations reflect a commitment to justice, governance, and community service.

Minister Sobers entered public service in 2017 as a Temporary Opposition Senator and was appointed a full Opposition Senator from 2019 to 2020. During his tenure, he contributed to the scrutiny and development of national legislation and was an active member of the Human Rights Joint Select Committee—advancing key issues in governance, civil liberties, and international human rights compliance.

As Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, he is responsible for shaping Trinidad and Tobago’s foreign policy, strengthening regional integration within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and representing the nation in bilateral and multilateral fora.
