Forging Stronger Ties: Trinidad and Tobago and The Netherlands deepen cooperation

The Honourable Sean Sobers, M.P., Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, received His Excellency Cornelis Wilhelmus Hersbach, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, during a courtesy call on 30th July, 2025 at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to engage in constructive dialogue in areas of mutual interest, with a particular focus on advancing technical cooperation in key sectors which the Netherlands possesses expertise, including climate adaptation, water management, food security, and waste management.

Additionally, the two sides explored the potential for collaboration in the fields of sports, as well as legal and judicial training, in keeping with Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity through strategic partnerships.

Trinidad and Tobago and the Kingdom of the Netherlands established diplomatic relations in 1962. Over the decades, bilateral cooperation has been characterised by productive engagements, particularly in technical fields, such as water and waste management and food security, contributing to the deepening of ties between both nations.

The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs reaffirms its commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships with international counterparts in support of national development priorities.
