MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS HOLDS BILATERAL DISCUSSIONS WITH FRANCE'S FOREIGN MINISTER

Earlier this afternoon, Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Minister, Honourable Sean Sobers, held bilateral discussions with His Excellency Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, in Martinique.

Minister Sobers is attending a high-level event currently taking place in Martinique to strengthen regional security and heighten the fight against trafficking, hosted by the French Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security.

In addition to regional security matters, both Ministers discussed various issues related to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) agenda, of which France is a Permanent Member. Trinidad and Tobago will become a Non-Permanent Member of the UNSC on 1st January 2027 for a two-year term after its successful election on 3rd June 2026. Both countries agreed to collaborate closely on the UNSC to enhance international peace and global security.
