MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS MEETS AMBASSADOR-DESIGNATE OF THE REPUBLIC OF GUATEMALA

On Tuesday, 15th July, 2025, the Honourable Wilfred Nicholas Morris, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister, received Her Excellency Karla Gabriela Samayoa Recari, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Guatemala to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs’ Headquarters.

The courtesy call preceded the official presentation of Letters of Credence by Her Excellency Samayoa Recari to Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

During the meeting, the Honourable Wilfred Nicholas Morris and the Ambassador-designate engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala.

Areas of potential cooperation between both countries identified included:

 Trade and Investment
 Agriculture
 Cultural Exchange
 Tourism
 Security
 Renewable energy
 Private sector partnerships

Her Excellency Samayoa Recari reaffirmed Guatemala’s commitment to deepening ties with Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean region, particularly in the areas of mutual cooperation and information sharing.

Formal diplomatic relations between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Republic of Guatemala were established on 25th May, 1994.

The meeting concluded cordially with both parties expressing a shared commitment to advancing the bilateral relationship.
