MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS MONITORS IMPACT OF VENEZUELAN EARTHQUAKES ON NATIONALS

Further to the statement of solidarity issued by the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on 24 June 2026, regarding the powerful earthquakes that struck the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Ministry provides the following update concerning the safety of Trinidad and Tobago nationals.

Current information indicates that there have been no reports of casualties or injuries involving nationals of Trinidad and Tobago. Furthermore, officials stationed at the Embassy of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Caracas have confirmed that the Chancery building sustained superficial damage. However, the facility is presently inaccessible due to extensive road closures in the vicinity.

The Ministry is aware of four Trinidad and Tobago nationals who were in Venezuela at the time to participate in a sporting activity. In this regard, the Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, has activated the relevant consular and emergency response channels to facilitate temporary accommodation, ground transportation, and the earliest safe travel arrangements for the athletes and their guardians back to Trinidad and Tobago. This is being undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs.

The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to the safety and well-being of all nationals residing in or visiting Venezuela. Nationals in the affected areas who require assistance or wish to register their presence are encouraged to contact the Embassy of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Caracas via:

Telephone: 011-58-212-261-3748 | 011-58-212-261-5796 | 011-58-212-261-4772

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago stands in unwavering solidarity with the Government and people of Venezuela as they navigate their recovery efforts. Our thoughts and prayers remain with them during this challenging time, and we hold deep admiration for their enduring strength and resilience. It is our earnest hope that, through God’s grace, they will emerge triumphant as they overcome the difficulties of this period.

The Ministry continues to monitor developments closely and maintains regular, close contact with its counterparts in the Venezuelan Government.
