On 3rd February 2026, the Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, on behalf of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and His Excellency Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed an Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investment between both countries. The Agreement was signed on the margin of the World Government Summit currently taking place in the Dubai, UAE.
The signing of the Agreement complements the assiduous efforts of the Government for Trinidad and Tobago to forge new relationships with countries throughout the world to advance this country’s foreign policy and economic interests. These efforts are being led by the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar who met with His Royal Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2025.
The Agreement signed today provides the necessary investment framework to support and protect new investments between both Trinidad and Tobago and the UAE. It enables investors from both countries to engage in investment activities with confidence, as it guides the expected behaviour of investors and ensures the rights of investors and States are protected. It offers protection such as, fair and equitable treatment and protection against expropriation, and also establishes mechanisms for resolving investment disputes.
The World Governments Summit is a global, non-profit organisation that serves as a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange among governments.
