The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, extends her deepest condolences to the Government and people of the United States of America, and to the families, loved ones and fellow service members of the three United States military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty in Jordan.
The Prime Minister pays special tribute to Sergeant Angel Sarah Rampersad, 28, who, according to information formally provided by United States authorities, was of Trinidad and Tobago heritage. She said Trinidad and Tobago honours the courage, commitment and selflessness of those who dedicate their lives to serving their countries.
Sergeant Rampersad was assigned to the 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air & Missile Defense Command, in Ansbach, Germany. Her father is a national of Trinidad and Tobago, while her mother is an American citizen.
Her passing is therefore mourned with particular sorrow in Trinidad and Tobago. Though she served under the flag of the United States, Sergeant Rampersad also shared a meaningful connection with our nation through her Trinidad and Tobago heritage.
United States authorities formally notified Trinidad and Tobago’s Acting Vice Consulate in New York of Sgt. Rampersad’s death. Upon learning of her passing, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, the Honourable Sean Sobers, spoke with Sergeant Rampersad’s father on Monday 21st July, 2026 and personally extended condolences to him and the wider family on behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago.
On Tuesday 21st July 2026, a team from the Consulate General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in New York visited Sergeant Rampersad’s family to express the nation’s sympathies and offer support during this profoundly difficult time.
The Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago mourn Sergeant Rampersad and her two fallen colleagues, who made the ultimate sacrifice while performing their duties. Their service commands our deepest respect, and their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Sergeant Rampersad’s Trinidad and Tobago heritage gives her loss a particular resonance for our nation. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to her parents and relatives, her fellow service members, and all those whose lives she touched.
