Trinidad and Tobago reaffirms commitment to strengthening partnership with the European Union

Trinidad and Tobago is committed to the continued advancing of its longstanding partnership with the Delegation of the European Union (EU) and noted that the relationship remains a valuable platform for strengthening dialogue and expanding cooperation across key sectors. Mr. Randall Karim, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and Head of the Foreign Service underscored these sentiments during a courtesy call by Ms. Cécile Tassin, Ambassador-designate of the European Union to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on 7th October, 2025 at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The meeting preceded the Ambassador-designate’s presentation of her Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

In welcoming Ms. Tassin and extending congratulations on her appointment, Mr. Karim acknowledged the contribution of her predecessor in advancing the active bilateral agenda and fostering constructive engagement between Trinidad and Tobago and the European Union.

Ambassador-designate Tassin expressed her gratitude and noted her eagerness at working in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean, a region in which she previously served. She commended the strong and collaborative relations shared between Trinidad and Tobago and the EU, and conveyed her commitment to further strengthening cooperation in areas of shared priority.

This year marks fifty (50) years of warm and enduring bilateral relations between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the European Union, a partnership characterized by mutual respect, shared values, and continued collaboration for sustainable development and prosperity.
