On July 6th 2025, the Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs led a Trinidad and Tobago delegation in a bilateral meeting with Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, JP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, prior to the commencement of the Forty-Ninth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, currently taking place in Montego Bay from July 6th to 8th 2025.
During the meeting both Ministers discussed issues of mutual interest between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica including trade and investment relations, immigration issues, and other potential areas of cooperation pertaining to national and regional security.
Minister Sobers expressed the keen interest of the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, S.C., M.P., Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in further strengthening the bilateral relationship with Jamaica given that both countries are two major economies in the region. The Trinidad and Tobago delegation also underscored the large volume of trade between both countries which currently stands at TT$1.6 billion and noted that the increasing private sector linkages between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago have played a major role in strengthening bilateral and intra-regional trade in CARICOM.
Both Ministers gave the undertaking to deepen their partnership in the Region and to maintain open and close personal communication with each other as issues arise.
Later in the afternoon, Minister Sobers accompanied by the Honourable Roger Alexander, Minister of Homeland Security toured a Security Technology Mini Expo which was launched by Dr. the Most Honourable, Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, as part of the Conference of Heads of Government Meeting.
The Trinidad and Tobago delegation also included Mr. Randall Karim, Permanent Secretary (Ag.) of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and Head of the Foreign Service and Ms. Ayesha Wharton, Director, CARICOM and Caribbean Affairs. The Jamaican delegation also included H.E. Ambassador Sheila Sealy Monteith, Permanent Secretary and Head of the Jamaican Foreign Service and H.E. Natalie Campbell Rodriques, High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago to Trinidad and Tobago.
