PORT OF SPAIN: 25TH SEPTEMBER 2025

Trinidad and Tobago deepened its bilateral and multilateral engagement on the third day of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, as the Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs; Mr. Nicholas Morris, Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs; and the Trinidad and Tobago delegation carried out a full programme of high-level meetings and events.

Minister Sobers held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, reaffirming the longstanding bonds of friendship and solidarity between Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba.

In a separate meeting, the Minister engaged with His Excellency Radosław Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland. Discussions addressed prospects for trade and investment and coordination within the United Nations to address global security and development challenges.

A key milestone of the day was the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Trinidad and Tobago and the Principality of Monaco, opening new doors of friendship and partnership. The signing of the Joint Communiqué paves the way for collaboration in areas such as sports, tourism and the yachting industry as well as the wider, multilateral level.

On the multilateral stage, Minister Sobers participated in the Annual Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 and China (G77), where he reiterated the strong support of Trinidad and Tobago for South-South cooperation and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also joined his CARICOM counterparts at a private luncheon of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR).

Complementing these engagements, Parliamentary Secretary Morris delivered an address at the High-Level Dialogue on Dismantling Transnational Criminal Activity in the Western Hemisphere, emphasizing the commitment of Trinidad and Tobago to combatting organized crime, illicit arms trafficking and other threats to peace and development through coordinated regional action. In addition, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and Head of the Foreign Service, Mr. Randall Karim represented Trinidad and Tobago at a Meeting of CELAC and the European Union.

Looking ahead, Minister Sobers and the delegation will continue a full programme of bilateral and multilateral meetings with international partners to advance this country’s foreign policy goals.
