Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, has concluded his visit to Buenos Aires where he attended the Twenty-second Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Community of Latin America and the Caribbean States (CELAC) from January 6 to 7, 2022. The Meeting was convened to hand over the Pro Tempore Presidency (PTP) of CELAC from the United Mexican States to Argentina for 2022 and to approve the proposed Work Plan for CELAC for 2022.
Minister Browne, along with Foreign Ministers from Latin America and the Caribbean discussed several issues of regional importance including inter alia; post-pandemic economic revival, COVID-19 mitigation and regional healthcare capacity building, strengthening disaster risk response and management capacities, food security, science, technology and innovation cooperation, digital transformation, and environmental cooperation in the context of the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Minister Browne also held a fruitful bilateral meeting with His Excellency Santiago Andrés Cafiero, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic. Discussions focused on key initiatives on the bilateral agenda, as well as continued cooperation in multilateral fora on issues of mutual importance.
