Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago met with Her Excellency Mrs. Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia for a bilateral meeting on 11th May, 2023, in the margins of the 28th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the Ninth ACS Summit being held in Antigua, Guatemala over the period 11th – 12th May, 2023.
The meeting marked the first encounter between the two Ministers and served as a follow-up to an interaction that took place in April of this year, between Minister Browne and His Excellency Gorazd Renčelj, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Brazil, in his capacity as “special envoy of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia to the Caribbean”.
As countries similar in size and international outlook, the Ministers were well-matched in their enthusiasm for the opportunity to engage at the bilateral level and to discuss avenues for deepening the ties between Trinidad and Tobago and Slovenia, by capitalising on the strengths and capacity inherent in both nations.
Some of the potential areas of cooperation discussed during the Meeting include water resource management, the use of ICTs including artificial intelligence for resource management, tourism, and people-to-people cultural exchanges.
