PORT OF SPAIN: 10TH NOVEMBER, 2017
On Wednesday 8th November, 2017, Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, led a delegation comprising the Honourable Glenda Jennings-Smith, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of National Security and officials of the Ministries of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries; Foreign and CARICOM Affairs; Planning and Development; and Trade and Industry at the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs to engage in Political Dialogue with the European Union, in the framework of Article 8 of the ACP-EU Cotonou Partnership Agreement.
The European Union was represented by His Excellency, Aad Biesebroek, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union; His Excellency Javier Carbajosa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain; His Excellency Hédi Picquart, Ambassador of the French Republic; His Excellency Holger Michael, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany; His Excellency Jules Bijl, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; and His Excellency Tim Stew, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom.
Discussions at the meeting were constructive and focused on bilateral, regional and international issues of concern including economic relations; climate change; Caribbean and Latin American affairs; the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals; security cooperation; and work being undertaken by Trinidad and Tobago with respect to its international commitments regarding fisheries management. Both sides also explored opportunities for support from the European Union to enhance private sector investment and economic diversification through the use of European Union financing instruments.
