Election of the 45th President of the United States of America

PORT OF SPAIN: NOVEMBER 9TH, 2016

After what has been arguably one of the most heated election campaigns in recent history, Republican Nominee Donald Trump triumphed at the polls on November 8th, 2016. He will therefore assume as the 45th President of the United States of America pursuant to the inauguration in January 2017.

In commenting on the outcome of the elections, Senator the Honourable Dennis Moses, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, took the opportunity to extend congratulations to President-elect Trump on his victory, noting that the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago acknowledged this expression of the will of the American electorate. Minister Moses further stated that Trinidad and Tobago looked forward to building on the already excellent ties which exist between the two nations and to fostering even greater engagement on matters of mutual interest during President Trump’s term in office.

The United States of America is Trinidad and Tobago’s largest trading partner and has provided significant technical and development assistance to this country. Through the Embassy of the United States of America in Port of Spain, recent collaboration has focussed extensively on matters related to trade, enhancing security, and combatting transnational crime.
