Mr. Guillaume Pierre, Ambassador-designate of the French Republic, paid a courtesy call on Senator the Honourable Dr. Kennedy Swaratsingh, Acting Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, at the headquarters of the Ministry on 30th September, 2025. During this meeting, the Ambassador-designate, on behalf of the French Government, reaffirmed his country’s readiness to deepening bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
Ambassador-designate Pierre emphasised that “France’s door is open” and expressed his Government’s willingness to collaborate with Trinidad and Tobago across key areas of mutual interest. He also shared his personal connection to the nation, recalling that part of his education was completed in Trinidad and Tobago, an experience that he said gave him a lasting appreciation for the country.
Minister Swaratsingh welcomed the Ambassador-designate’s expressions of goodwill, underscoring the strong and cordial relations that exist between Trinidad and Tobago and France. He noted that France is one of Trinidad and Tobago’s major European trading partners and emphasized the value of pursuing Government-to-Government initiatives to further advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Following the courtesy call, Ambassador-designate Pierre proceeded to present his Credentials to Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the French Republic were formally established in 1962 and continue to be marked by friendship, trade and collaboration.
