On April 14th, 2025, the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs participated in a ceremony for the signing of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This Agreement, the first of its kind between Trinidad and Tobago and an African State, was signed by the Honourable Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works and Transport Ministry of Works and Transport on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago, and by The Honourable Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development on behalf of Nigeria. The ceremony took place at the VIP lounge of the Piarco International Airport.
This agreement is expected to pave the way for expanded air travel between the two nations, fostering increased trade, economic growth and cultural exchange. In his statement during the event, Minister Browne also emphasized the Agreement’s importance in enhancing connectivity and facilitating access for Trinidad and Tobago to the African continent. The new Air Services Agreement builds upon existing agreements between Trinidad and Tobago and Nigeria, including the Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, and the Agreement on Cultural and Educational Cooperation.
Minister Browne expressed his gratitude to the negotiating teams from both countries and acknowledged Minister Keyamo for his commitment to the agreement. The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs reaffirms the Government’s dedication to strengthening its relationship with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which began formally in 1962, as well as to exploring opportunities within Nigeria and the countries of Africa for the benefit of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
