PORT OF SPAIN: 22ND JULY, 2022
Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, received
former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Winston Dookeran at the Ministry’s Headquarters on 22nd
July, 2022.
During their discussion, Mr. Dookeran raised the topic of the Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean
which was launched in May 2014 during Mr. Dookeran’s tenure as Foreign Minister. Mr. Dookeran
explained that the original purpose and conceptualisation of the Diplomatic Academy were to provide
continuous training for Foreign Service Officers from Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean and to
serve as a channel for the resolution of conflicts affecting the region. Further, it was intended to
provide solutions through research and dialogue, based on the available human and academic
resources that are at the Academy’s disposal. He encouraged the Minister to pursue further
engagement with stakeholders of the Academy in order to yield these benefits.
Minister Browne expressed gratitude to Mr. Dookeran for the visit and the exchange of ideas during
their meeting and committed to following up on engagement regarding the Diplomatic Academy of
the Caribbean. Minister Browne also conveyed his deep respect and admiration for Mr. Dookeran
and the work that he continues to do.
Prior to the end of the meeting Mr. Dookeran presented two of his books to the Minister: Crisis and
