MINISTER BROWNE BIDS FARWELL TO HIS EXCELLENCY ARTHUR WILLIAMS, HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR JAMAICA

On 24th August 2023, His Excellency Arthur Williams, High Commissioner for Jamaica to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, paid a farewell courtesy call on Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, at the end of his tour of duty.

Minister Browne commended High Commissioner Williams on his four-year tenure in office, and noted that he enjoyed working with the High Commissioner toward improving the bilateral relations between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. Reflecting on the fact that Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica were both founding members of the Caribbean Community and remain active participants in the regional integration movement, Minister Browne emphasized that a positive relationship between both countries is critical to the ongoing success of CARICOM.

High Commissioner Williams thanked Minister Browne and noted that he was especially pleased that a Trade Complaints Mechanism between the two nations had been signed during his tenure when The Most Honourable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, paid a State Visit to Trinidad and Tobago in August 2022. Commenting on the recently concluded 45th Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of CARICOM held in July 2023 in Trinidad and Tobago, High Commissioner Willams expressed a sense of renewed hope for the future and the region.

Minister Browne noted that Trinidad and Tobago looks forward to working with Jamaica during the upcoming Presidency of the United Nations General Assembly and expressed his full commitment to working closely with High Commissioner Williams’ successor in Port of Spain.
