Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with the new Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with His Excellency Álvaro Enrique Cordero, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on Friday 13th May, 2022 at the Ministry’s offices in St. Clair.

The Ambassador presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, on 4th May, 2022, while the Minister was on official overseas travel. This was, therefore, the first opportunity for the Minister and Ambassador to meet at the Ministry.

During the cordial exchange, Minister Browne highlighted the very good cultural and people-to-people relations between both countries, the increasing importance of Spanish for enhancing the relationship of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago with the wider Latin American region and the importance of continued energy cooperation.

Ambassador Sánchez utilised the opportunity to express sincere gratitude to Trinidad and Tobago for its support for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, underscoring the strong position taken by the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and CARICOM against attempts to promote the exclusion of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from the world stage.
