Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with newly appointed Ambassador of the United Mexican States to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

PORT OF SPAIN: 13TH MAY, 2022

Senator The Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with the newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Victor Hugo Morales Mélendez, on Thursday, May 5th , 2022, at the Ministry’s offices at Prada Street, St. Clair.

The courtesy call took place prior to Ambassador Mélendez’s presentation of his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, which took place at President’s House later that morning.

Minister Browne extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Mélendez and acknowledged the very friendly and long-standing relations between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the United Mexican States, noting that the two countries share common interests in various areas, such as sport and culture.

Minister Browne also acknowledged the outstanding work of the Embassy of the United Mexican States preceding the arrival of the new Ambassador and expressed his confidence that this would continue under Ambassador Mélendez’s tenure.

Ambassador Mélendez informed that Trinidad and Tobago and, by extension the Caribbean, remain important actors for Mexico’s foreign policy and stated that he is looking forward to future engagement with the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs to further bolster the already strong relationship between both countries.

At the end of the meeting both parties committed to further active engagement on bilateral issues of mutual interest in the near future.
