PORT OF SPAIN: 9TH NOVEMBER, 2023
On Thursday November 9, 2023, Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs addressed the inaugural One Degree of Separation (ODOS) Convention at the Queen’s Hall Auditorium in Port of Spain.
Described as “a platform that aims to use the power of technology to provide global opportunities for Caribbean creatives”, ODOS was organised by Question Mark Entertainment, a full service management and booking agency involved in producing and promoting a variety of events involving regional talents, as well as internationally acclaimed entertainment personalities.
The ODOS convention was convened with a view to facilitating capacity building and networking with entertainment agencies across the world, as well as conducting exchange programmes, internships and workshops which was greatly appreciated by the wide cross section of secondary schools represented at the event.
In his remarks, Minister Browne highlighted, inter alia, that the work of ODOS was complementary to the efforts of partners in the Creative Industry sector, such as FilmTT and others which through various initiatives and partnerships collaborate intra-regionally, as well as outside the region to showcase the country's rich cultural heritage to a global audience.
The Minister paid homage to the extraordinary talents of local actor Michael Cherrie (who was present in the audience), and took the opportunity to exhort creative industry leaders at the event to continue to network and collaborate on initiatives that would further showcase the immense ingenuity and creativity of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
Minister Browne concluded his remarks with comments directed to the young persons present, encouraging them to use their time and energy to make our country proud, and to dedicate their future to uplift the national image and fortunes.
Following his address, Minister Browne witnessed the feature presentation by Mr. Simon Baptiste, Chief Executive Officer of Question Mark Entertainment who shared, inter alia, the success story of Michael Cherrie’s casting in the upcoming Netflix drama entitled “Shirley”.
