Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs commemorates the 35th Anniversary of the Day of German Unity

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs expressed optimism that just as the Berlin Wall collapsed and unified Germany, the world can believe in the hope that “no wall is permanent and no conflict can divide us forever.” He made this statement when he spoke at the reception to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the National Day of Germany – the Day of German Unity on 3rd October, 2024.

During the reception, Minister Browne remarked that Germany has become a pivotal actor in the economic and political strength of the European Union, a leader in the international arena and a country with which Trinidad and Tobago has been pleased to conduct productive relations since 1963. His Excellency Dr. Christophe Nicolas Eick, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, echoed this point. In his opening remarks, the Ambassador underscored “Germany and Trinidad and Tobago are geographically far apart, but we share many aspirations…to be able to exist as a nation is one of them.” Both the Minister and Ambassador reflected on the impact that the challenges facing the world today have on our respective economies, with Ambassador Eick stating: “This partnership and friendship allow us to tackle many of today’s challenges, bringing to bear our respective strengths.”
