Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs delivers statement at the celebration of the National Day of the Argentine Republic

PORT OF SPAIN: 6TH JUNE, 2022

On June 01, 2022, Senator The Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs attended a reception hosted by His Excellency Marcelo Suárez Salvia, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic and Mrs. Suárez Salvia at the Ambassador’s official residence in celebration of Revolution Day, the National Day of the Argentine Republic, which has been observed annually on May 25, since 1810.

Ambassador Salvia extended greetings from President Alberto Fernández and Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero of the Argentine Republic, and expressed deep appreciation for the friendship and cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina. In addition, the Ambassador noted the significant work undertaken by the Government of Argentina to strengthen cooperation and the commercial ties between the two countries. Ambassador Salvia also took this opportunity to signal his country’s interest in other possible areas for cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina, such as the energy sector and the digital economy.

Noting the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ambassador commended the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for its extraordinary efforts in combatting the disease, with special mention of this country’s pro-vaccination programmes.

In extending congratulations to the Government and people of Argentina, Minister Browne acknowledged that this year will mark fifty-eight years since establishing diplomatic relations with the Argentine Republic. The Minister, himself a former Ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago to Argentina, used the occasion to reiterate Trinidad and Tobago's commitment to strengthening the enduring alliance and bilateral partnership between the two countries, enhanced by the efforts of the Argentine Embassy in the area of culture.

The Minister noted the meaningful bilateral cooperation between the two countries in their collaboration on matters of mutual interest in multilateral fora including the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, Organization of American States and the United Nations and committed to continued engagement to the benefit of both countries.
