Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs delivers Welcome Remarks at 26th Intersessional Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, delivered

Welcome Remarks at the 26th Intersessional Preparatory Meeting for the 29th Ordinary Meeting of

the Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), held virtually on January,

26th 2024.

In his statement, Minister Browne welcomed participants to the meeting, expressed appreciation to

the Chair of the Ministerial Council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and

International Cooperation of Suriname, for his guidance during his term as Chair and commended

the organization for the work done during the past year.

The Minister also focused on the importance of inter-regional cooperation to address the shared

threat of Climate Change, its related challenges and their effects on the people of the Caribbean

region.

The Ministerial Council conducted a review and assessment of the work done by the ACS and its

Special Committees during the 2023-2024 period, while charting a course for the work to be carried

out in the coming year. Finally, Ministers discussed preparation for the 30th Anniversary of the ACS

to be commemorated later this year and the hosting of the 29th Ministerial Conference in May 2024.
