Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs holds discussions with His Excellency Wellington Bencosme, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs held
discussions with His Excellency Wellington Bencosme, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to
the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago during a Courtesy Call on 23rd January, 2024 at the Ministry’s
headquarters.

Discussions during the meeting focused on prospects for strengthening the bilateral relationship
between Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic with particular emphasis on trade,
Spanish language training, and notably, prospective air connectivity between Trinidad and Tobago
and the Dominican Republic. Minister Browne and Ambassador Bencosme also exchanged views
on tourism and cultural cooperation, particularly in the Carnival sector.

The topic of Haiti was also discussed, and Ambassador Bencosme updated Minister Browne on
discussions held between Haiti and the Dominican Republic on the ongoing dispute regarding the
Dajabon/Massacre River. The Minister expressed his hope that a peaceful resolution could be
reached.
