MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION OF ITALY

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs extended a warm welcome to His Excellency Giorgio Silli, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, on 6th November, 2024. The Undersecretary of State was on a one-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago and was accompanied by His Excellency Fabrizio Nicoletti, Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Minister Browne and Undersecretary of State Silli discussed similarities between Trinidad and Tobago and Italy, and reviewed respective positions on matters including migration, trade, tourism, judicial cooperation, and training at the tertiary level.

The Minister expressed particular interest in exploring cooperation in the fields of the judiciary and law enforcement, which he highlighted as high priorities for Trinidad and Tobago.

The Minister and the Undersecretary then engaged in further discussions of a bilateral nature during a working luncheon.

The Undersecretary and his also team met with the Honourable Pennelope Beckles-Robinson, Minister of Planning and Development.

The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Italian Republic established diplomatic relations on 3rd January 1964. The visit represented an opportunity to renew the friendship between the two countries and to set priorities towards building “a new future” together.
