Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs holds discussions with Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China

Dr. the Honourable Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs held discussions with His Excellency Fu Ziying, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, during a courtesy call on 25th March 2025, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.

His Excellency Fu Ziying is leading a delegation on a three-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago that builds on the outcomes of the visit in November 2024, by His Excellency Wu Weihua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China. The visit also aids in promoting legislative exchanges between the Governments of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the People’s Republic of China.

Discussions during the courtesy call focused on bilateral ties, particularly the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Trinidad and Tobago and China in 2024, trade, people-to-people exchanges and participation in the Belt and Road Initiative. Minister Browne and His Excellency also spoke highly about the partnership between Trinidad and Tobago and China, which has been developed over several decades based on the One China Policy. There was also an exchange of views on recent developments in China, China’s relations with Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the country’s engagement within the multilateral fora.

Both Minister Browne and Vice-Chairman Ziying also expressed the commitment to the continued engagement between the countries for a robust and productive relationship.
