MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS HOSTS MEETING WITH DEPUTY HEAD OF MISSION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION DELEGATION AND HEADS OF MISSION TO DISCUSS A DRAFT UN RESOLUTION ON ADVANCING PEACE IN UKRAINE

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, received Ms. Evelina Melbarzde, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation and Chargé d’Affaires a.i., on 11th February, 2025. Ms. Melbarzde was accompanied by Ambassadors from EU Member States, France, Germany, Netherlands and Spain and the High Commissioner for Canada and an official of the British High Commission. 

The primary objective of this meeting was to discuss a Draft United Nations Resolution on advancing peace in Ukraine. The discussion centred on the critical necessity to achieve a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has now persisted for three years. The representatives emphasized the importance of reaffirming the international community's commitment to the principles outlined in the UN Charter and adherence to international law. 

During the exchange, Minister Browne expressed deep concern over the urgent need to end the conflict, highlighting its significant repercussions on human life and global stability. 

The meeting concluded with the parties committing to continued cooperation on all matters of mutual interest.
