Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with Director-General of the Latin American and Caribbean Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China while in Suriname

Trinidad and Tobago and China have renewed their commitment to strengthening their bonds of friendship. This occurred on Sunday July 2nd 2022, when Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with Mr. Cai Wei, Director-General of the Latin American and Caribbean Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China prior to the start of the 43rd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) held in Paramaribo, Suriname, from July 3rd to July 5th 2022.

Discussions centred on bilateral relations between Trinidad and Tobago and China and Trinidad and Tobago’s unwavering support for the One China Policy. Minister Browne thanked China for the contribution Chinese people have made to Trinidad and Tobago, noting that their presence enriched lives and the society. Specifically, he thanked China for the role it has played during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the provision of much-needed vaccines and medical supplies. Minister Browne also noted the many high-level visits between both countries that serve as a symbol of the deep bonds we share.
