MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS MEETS WITH HER EXCELLENCY HARRIET CROSS, HIGH COMMISSIONER OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with Her Excellency Harriet Cross, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs today, 10th July, 2023 to discuss a number of items on the bilateral and multilateral agenda. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Ms. Chinali Patel, Head of Political, Economic and Press of the High Commission.

The meeting commenced with High Commissioner Cross congratulating Minister Browne and, by extension the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, for the successful hosting of the Forty-Fifth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) which was held during the period 3rd to 5th July, 2023 in Port of Spain. In this regard, Minister Browne indicated that all credit for the successful hosting of the Meeting, should go to Teams Trinidad and Tobago and CARICOM. He further recalled that the meeting, which also celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas in 1973, saw full participation from Heads of Government of CARICOM in a tree planting exercise which took place on CARICOM Day, 4th July, 2023, at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre.

The meeting featured discussion on a range of multilateral issues, including the UK’s candidature for Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The Minister and the High Commissioner also discussed areas of functional cooperation and priorities for future collaboration and partnership.
