Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with Indian Charge d'Affaires a.i., High Commission of India

PORT OF SPAIN: 04TH JANUARY, 2023

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with Mr. Raju Sharma, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of the High Commission of India, on 4th January, 2023.

Discussions included an invitation to the Minister to participate in the Ministers’ Session of the Indian Government’s initiative: “Voice of the South Summit,” a virtual event, from the 12th and 13th of January, 2023. Minister Browne expressed appreciation for the inclusion of Trinidad and Tobago as a participating nation in the Summit’s Foreign Ministers’ Session and commended the Indian Government for its disposition to consult with partner countries as India continues in its role as G20 President. The Summit will be held in the context of India’s ongoing Presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) nations as a concerted effort to exchange perspectives and insights with a broad range of countries.

The Indian High Commission’s commemoration of India’s Republic Day on 26th January, 2023, at which the Minister is invited to be the feature speaker was also discussed, along with opportunities for greater collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commission in New Delhi and the Indian High Commission in Port of Spain; the Indian Government’s conferment of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) upon the Honourable Justice Frank Seepersad, Judge of the High Court, Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago; and additional potential avenues to advance cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and India.

The meeting concluded with the expression of anticipation of fruitful engagements during the “Voice of the South Summit”.
