Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with newly-appointed Ambassador of the United Mexican States to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with His Excellency Victor Hugo Morales Mélendez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the Ministry’s offices at Prada Street, St. Clair.

Minister Browne welcomed to Ambassador Mélendez and acknowledged the warm and friendly ties between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the United Mexican States.

During the meeting, they discussed collaboration between both countries in multiple areas such as tourism, security, trade and investment, culture and technical cooperation.

Discussions also focused on the 60th anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago’s independence, the forthcoming National Day celebration of the United Mexican States and a proposed visit to Port of Spain of a Mexican vessel later this year.

Minister Browne also noted the proposed project between The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and the Mexican National Institute of Statistics and Geography, which is expected to facilitate, inter alia, cooperation related to research on space and the mitigation of climate change and natural disasters.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue working to strengthen ties that would redound to the benefit of the two countries and their people
