MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS MEETS WITH NEWLY APPOINTED NON-RESIDENT AMBASSADOR OF THE KINGDOM OF SWEDEN TO THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs met with His Excellency Anders Bengtcén, non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, during a courtesy call on 25th October, 2023 at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The Minister welcomed the Ambassador and briefly outlined the areas that presented opportunities for the expansion of the relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden. These areas encompassed increasing market access for Trinidad and Tobago goods in Sweden, trade missions, policy exchanges, technical cooperation and reciprocal support for candidatures in multilateral settings.

The Ambassador thanked Trinidad and Tobago for the country’s consistent position on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The discussion also covered unrest occurring in other parts of the world and opportunities for further collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden to alleviate the effects of these conflicts.

Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden established diplomatic relations in July 1966. Since that time, Sweden has been involved in a number of development projects, including the Point Lisas Housing and Urban Development Programme, the Ferry Service between Port of Spain and Scarborough and Administrative Improvement in the Public Service.

Ambassador Bengtcén presented his Letters of Credence on 24th October, 2023 to Her Excellency Christine Kangaloo, ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago accrediting him as the non-resident Ambassador for Sweden to Trinidad and Tobago, based in Stockholm.
