MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS MEETS WITH THE FOREIGN MINISTER OF SERBIA

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs held discussion with His Excellency Marko Djuric, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia on 27th June, 2024. This meeting took place while Minister Browne attended the 54th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organisation of American States (OAS) in Asunción, Republic of Paraguay which was convened during the period 26th to 28th June, 2024.

This was Minister Browne’s first bilateral engagement with Minister Djuric’s since his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia on 2nd May, 2024.

While Trinidad and Tobago’s engagement with the Republic of Serbia is primarily conducted through the United Nations system and on the political level, both countries share many similarities as Small States.

Minister Browne applauded the success of the Government of Serbia in the Information Technology sector and expressed an interest in including cooperation in this area on the bilateral agenda.

Other topics discussed during the meeting included education, sports, and the importance of the multilateral framework in upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.

The meeting ended with both Ministers agreeing to strengthen communication and collaboration and an offer from Minister Djuric to host Minister Browne for an Official Visit.

Serbia became a Permanent Observer of the OAS on September 25, 2002.
