Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs meets with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) at the 9th Summit of Americas in Los Angeles, USA

On June 7, 2022 Senator The Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, met with His Excellency Luis Almagro Lemes, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Los Angeles, USA in the margins of the 9th Summit of the Americas which runs from June 6 to 10, 2022.

Minister Browne and Secretary General Almagro engaged in fruitful discussions about the nexus between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the OAS. Minister Browne advocated for the recruitment of more CARICOM professionals in the OAS Secretariat, and the discussion included the sharing of perspectives on current trends and developments within the hemisphere.

Minister Browne emphasized the need for member countries and organisations such as the OAS to create and maintain a positive environment conducive to dialogue among all actors. Secretary General Almagro acknowledged the enabling approach taken by CARICOM member states towards OAS objectives, and encouraged more engagement with CARICOM in the areas of security, development, human rights, education and promoting good governance.

The discussions were cordial and productive and ended with both Officials agreeing to continue dialogue in the best interest of all the people of the region of the Americas.
