MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS MEETS WITH THE UNITED NATIONS ASSISTANT SECRETARY GENERAL, ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR AND DIRECTOR OF THE REGIONAL BUREAU FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN OF THE UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne received Ms. Michelle Muschett, United Nations Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) during a Courtesy Call held on 7th November, 2023 at the Ministry’s headquarters. Mr. Ugo Blanco, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten accompanied Ms. Muschett to the meeting.

The Minister Browne welcomed Ms. Muschett on her first visit to Trinidad and Tobago and expressed his gratitude for the work of the UNDP, underscoring the value of their work in addressing socio-economic challenges such as poverty reduction and in combatting HIV/AIDS, providing invaluable support to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The Minister declared Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to the perpetuation of the productive collaboration with the organization.

Ms. Muschett congratulated Trinidad and Tobago on having a national appointed to the post of President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Minister, in thanking Ms. Muschett, noted that it was a challenging time for leaders; however, he expressed the view that the position would allow Trinidad and Tobago to contribute significantly to the world.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their willingness to strengthen relations and create opportunities for further collaboration.
