On Friday, January 24th, 2025, Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, participated virtually in the 27th Intersessional Preparatory Meeting for the 30th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).
As is customary for the Host Nation of the ACS, Minister Browne delivered the Welcome Remarks, extending a warm welcome to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs present and expressing gratitude to Colombia for their exemplary leadership of the Ministerial Council in 2024. Minister Browne also welcomed the new Secretary-General of the ACS, Ambassador Noemi Espinoza Madrid of Honduras, expressing his eagerness to collaborate with her office. Additionally, he acknowledged and thanked the former Secretary-General for his leadership and notable work during his tenure.
Minister Browne emphasized that 2025 is a significant and transitional year for many States in the CARICOM region, and underscored the importance of establishing strategic plans for the ACS and its Member States for the remainder of the decade. He stressed the importance of cooperation among Member States and the Secretariat in tackling the challenges of the upcoming year. Moreover, he outlined the need for consolidating alliances and strengthening the collective voice of the region on the international stage.
The Minister reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s unwavering commitment to the ACS as the Host Country to the ACS Secretariat and pledged to continue supporting the Secretariat in fulfilling its mandate for 2025 and beyond.
