MINISTER OF FOREIGN AND CARICOM AFFAIRS PRESENTS EXEQUATUR TO THE NEWLY APPOINTED HONORARY CONSUL FOR THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA

During a ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on 30th June, 2023, Mr. Gabriel Woodham was presented with his Exequatur by Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, confirming Mr. Woodham’s appointment as Honorary Consul for the Republic of Ghana in Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Woodham was accompanied by His Excellency Samuel Yaw Nsiah, High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, resident in Havana, Cuba and Ms. Marguerite Agyeman-Prempeh Agard, Ghanaian national and writer.

At the ceremony, the Minister engaged in discussion with Mr. Woodham on the strong and significant bilateral relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and Ghana, and relayed that there are tremendous opportunities for further strengthening that relationship by exploring areas such as energy, culture and sport. Minister Browne also emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people contact, trade and transportation linkages between both countries.

Mr. Woodham shared information on the historical linkages between both countries, pointing out that Trinidad and Tobago served as a safe haven for many Ghanaian nationals during a period of political instability in Ghana in 1966. Reflecting on the accommodation afforded by the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago to the people of Ghana during this period, Mr. Woodham highlighted the special relationship between the two countries.
